The CITY Transfer Watch

With the MLS Transfer Window wide open (until Aug 2), we thought it would be a good idea to try to keep tabs on the rumors on what names are floating around the interwebs with ties to St Louis CITY SC.

I'll break down each name and what we know, and links to the sources where we are getting those names. I will then continue to add to this page as names appear.

Our man, Jake Henry, brought this one to our group, 26 year old South African midfielder, Thebo Cele. Thebo has played in Europe for the past seven years, first making his professional debut with Real SC in Portugal's 3rd division, and then signing a contract with Benfica, where he was loaned back to Real SC. The following season he signed with Cova de Piedade in the Portugal's 2nd Division where he played from 2018-2021. Cele then made the jump to Poland's first division, where he signed a 2 year deal with Radomiak Radom. Now that Cele's contract is ending there are a few reports of where he could end up, including a mention of St Louis CITY as a suitor. But it may go beyond just a mention. In this article from South Africa's The Citizen, a source is quoted as saying, ""Thabo Cele attacked St Louis City from America and Al Ahly sporting director we had a three hour telephonic meeting regarding Thabo Cele who is currently playing Cosafa. The representatives of Thabo Cele have not yet agreed with any teams," said a source to the publication."                                                                  *UPDATE- According to a Tweet from Manuel Veth, there is no truth to this rumor.

Nokkvi Thorisson

Another one brought to our attention from Jake Henry, 23 year old Icelandic Winger/Forward Nokkvi Thorisson.  On July 5, a tweet from Mats Somers claimed that Thorisson was on his way to St Louis CITY SC from Belgian 2nd Division side, Beerschot. Manuel Veth posted on Threads: "Sources on Nokkvi Thorisson to St Louis CITY SC. There is definite interest and the striker fits the club's profile perfectly. But reports from Belgium that a deal is done are are exaggerated. Still one to keep an eye on."  Since joining Beerschot last year, Thorisson has scored 7 goals in 28 regular season games. Thorisson also made his appearance for the first time this year with Iceland's National Team.

UPDATE- On Friday, July 21, this turned out to be a real thing and it was announced that Nokkvi had put pen to paper for CITY.

Manuel Veth sent out a tweet on June 13 confirming that CITY was interested in signing 26 year old Brazilian Defender, Conrado.  Conrado Buchanelli Holz, or Conrado, currently plays for Lechia Gdansk in the Polish top league, Ekstraklasa, where he signed from Figueirense in 2020. He started as a midfielder, but is now classified as an attacking left back.

There was also a Tweet from MLS Source that CITY had an offer rejected for Conrado by Lechia Gdansk, but that negotiations were still ongoing. No word since.
